THOMAS HARRELL JR., MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

  An annual College – Professional School Scholarship Fund in an amount to be determined annually by the Board of Directors, but not less than $250.00 is here by established as of January 1, 2006. The purpose of this scholarship fund is to encourage young anglers, from one of the Tidewater, Virginia Angler’s Clubs to attend a recognized college, university, or professional trade school.
The requirements for the participants shall be as follows:
(All six requirements must be met to be eligible)

1. Recipient shall be under the age of 25 years old
2. Recipient must be the dependant of a member of a Tidewater Virginia Anglers
Club or a current member themselves.
3. Recipient must be an Anglers Club Member of a Tidewater Virginia Club or dependant of current member in good standing and the recipient or the member he/she is the dependant of must be with the club for a minimum of two (2) consecutive years.
4. Recipient or sponsor (the member of which they are a dependant) must have participated in Anglers Club activities.
5. Recipient must have angling achievements for which they have been recognized.
6. Recipient must be academically proficient.

Typed application should be submitted to the Portsmouth Anglers Club on the approved form with an essay of not less than 300 words and not more than 2 pages. The applicant should explain his/her qualifications and reason they should be chosen for this scholarship award. Applications should be submitted no later than 1 July of each year.
Such applicants shall be ranked pursuant to the above criteria with the highest qualified receiving the scholarship.
Such scholarship shall be paid for one (1) year with no restrictions with the possibility for re-qualifying for up to 5 years.
A standing committee shall be selected by the Club President of no less than three (3) members of the Board of Directors of the Portsmouth Anglers Club. They shall serve for one year and shall choose the scholarship recipient by 15 August of each year. Their decision shall be final.
